I just received my copies of the 3-volume set personally sent to me by Larry Mitchell. Outstanding set of books! Great for observers of all levels.
If you don't know Larry, he is one of the best observers on the planet. Same league as Steve Gottlieb. I see no one else better than these two.
The objects on these books are curated from Larry's Advanced Observing Program at the one and only Texas Star Party. Larry has been doing it since 2000 and provided bounds of fun for observers of all levels. Again the goal is to go out and see it. You will be surprised that what you can see through the eyepiece. Never know until you try!
Those who know me, I just produce my observing guides and go out and observe using my stuff. I am surprised at what I can see. I often see more than I expected to see through the eyepiece. I never know until I look through the eyepiece!
Don't get hung up on the word "Advanced" as the goal of these books is to provide observing challenges and astrophysical background of objects. Even though the object may be a faint fuzzy in the eyepiece, but reading his text, you will know and understand what you are looking at. The idea is to encourage those to go out and observe.
I expect the rest to be available soon. Once I get the links from Larry I'll post it here.
When I get a chance to read the books, I'll post a review unless someone gets to it before I do. I need to put it down as I'm writing one of my final research papers and working on my dissertation.
