While scouring the Digitized Sky Survey looking for interesting targets to hit in the next dark of the moon window, I came across this image of NGC 2514 in Cancer. To me, this object looks like one face-on barred spiral galaxy almost directly superimposed over another, more distant spiral (the core of the more distant spiral can be seen immediately SE of the foreground galaxy’s core). A quick Google search didn’t turn up any images with better resolution and there seems to be little in the way of specific information about this galaxy (these galaxies). Does anyone know if this is, in fact, a double galaxy?
