New toy on the way!

Just ordered a 6mm Delos today! Should have it on Thursday..so far the weather forecast looks promising...would love to blow the dust of the larger scope and get some photon time..

I'm hoping to pick up a new e.p. when I come over to TSP in April, I'm looking at a Delos, among others.

My big scope has also got dust - and probably mould, too, given our damp winters - on it...:(

He does. He's a true DSO guy.

But I do need to add this. Paul, er....I mean Adrian, has the hands down, smoothest moving 'scope I have ever had the opportunity to observe with. Period! Obsession or otherwise, there isn't a smoother, more buttery feeling scope than his. Its really incredible. It's perfectly balanced and feels as if its moving on air. High magnification views are effortless and quite easy to maintain an object in the FOV.

I can never compliment him enough on the tweaks to the movements of his scope. http://bestsmileys.com/bowing/1.gif

Hey Dude!...Thanks man! I worked hard over the years getting my scope as you would say 'tweaked' the way it is. Its WAY better now then it was when I first got it, optically as well as mechanically. You know its pretty easy though as Dave builds a scope from the get go that is so nicely rigid and square. All you need to so is to ensure that the bearing surfaces are always nice and clean and decently lubricated with some kind of silicone based lubricant or auto wax. Cleaning is important though at the beginning of every observing season. The tough part is getting the azimuth bearing right..This usually requires getting just the right shim under the center bearing, and then to not over tighten the ground board. The goal is to equate the torque required to get it moving to that of keeping it moving.. Currently I am about %90 there...The disparity between the two become far more pronounced when the scope is pointed high in altitude utilizing higher magnifications. I am going to experiment with some new lubrication this season to see if I can close this gap even further... Thanks again man!
