Hi all,

Recently I found some interesting information about the veil nebula on Steve Gottlieb's homepage. Especially the extreme southern filaments (Simeis 3-210) arouse my attention. Beginning of September I decided to try it and to take a sketch of the area using my 12" F5 Dobson.

The result:
http://www.licht-stimmungen.de/01_sub_pages_astro/Zeichnungen/Galaktische%20Nebel/Simeis_3-210_201309_comp700.jpg
Objekt: Simeis 3-210
Type: Supernova Remnant (Veil Nebula, extreme southern Filament)
Observing Place: Sudelfeld, Bavarian Alps, Germany
Date, Time: 4.9.2013, 11 pm
Conditions: SQML = 21,35 mag/arcsec*2, seeing II (Antoniadi), 12,5 degC, (rel.) humidity 75%
Dobson: Hofheim Instruments 300mm / F5
Eyepiece: Nagler 20mm, 4mm exit pupil (75x)
used filter: OIII
South is (roughly) up

In addition I tried also the other fainter parts (beside NGC6992/6995 & NGC6960) of the veil nebula.
Some more pictures and sketches of this night are on my homepage.

Great sketch Christian!

In case you missed it, Steve contributed an OOTW last year highlighting the veil. You can read it here http://www.deepskyforum.com/showthread.php?172-Object-of-the-Week-July-08-2012-Dissecting-the-Veil-Nebula
