Hi everyone,
It's almost that time again - the 17th annual Alt Az Workshop is coming up September 13, 14 and 15 at Dan Gray's TMS location in Portland Oregon. Please see the attached announcement and agenda for details.
As we have done the past few years, the workshop will be live on Zoom and the recordings posted to YouTube a few days after the workshop for those who aren't able to view the live stream.
The Zoom links will be sent out to everyone on this email blast a few days before the workshop, so don't worry until September 12 if you haven't received them.
As we discussed at the end of last year's workshop, we've broadened the scope - pun definitely intended - of the workshop to include talks about what we use our telescopes for, and for those who are just beginning their telescope making journeys. This should not only be of interest to more people, but will no doubt benefit us all.
Of special interest to all the observers here, one of our featured speakers this year is our own Steve Gottlieb. His talk will be on Friday, September 13 at 6:00pm Pacific time (North America west coast)
For those who don't read the announcement, there is no charge to attend the workshop in-person or on Zoom. We do request that the in-person attendees contribute $5 for each continental breakfast and BBQ they partake in to help us defray the cost of the food and drink. Bringing your own food and favorite beverage are great ideas too.
We also request that you let us know if you plan to attend in person so we can buy enough food and set up the workshop area of TMS to comfortably hold us. For those who didn't attend last year, the new location for TMS is very similar to the old one, so you'll feel right at home.
If you have friends that may be interested in the workshop, feel free to pass along this email, attachments and later, the Zoom links.
I think that covers everything, but since this is the first year that Mel Bartels is Co-Chair of the workshop, you can ask us both if you have questions.
Howard and Mel
