ESO 510-13: Warped dust lane

I am in the process of printing charts for TSP and noticed this interesting galaxy just 30' NW of Arp-Madore 4. This looks like a very interesting galaxy similar in appearance to NGC5128. It is listed as a SA type edge on with a very warped dust lane. Magnitude is ~13.4 visual. Here is an image of Megastar/Real Sky:

Anyone look at this DSO?

Yes I have seen it. It is in the Arp Madore Southern Peculiar galaxy catalog. I think if I remember right that it is thought to be a polar ring type galaxy.

I observed it with a 25" from Australia 4 years back -- it's a bright galaxy with interesting structure. I was surprised to find the portion north of the dust lane was noticeably fainter (and slightly smaller) than the section south of the dust lane.

If you do check it out, Keith, there's a striking 1.3' pair of galaxies, ESO 510-9 and 510-10, just 12' southwest.

Hi Keith,
i had a look a it with my 12" from a valley at the german alpes. Roughly over the horizon - i had to grab my Dob to follow the galaxy - peering through a cut between two mountains :-)

It was a surprising huge oval smudge but no hint of a dust lane.
However, an observation to remember for me because it has been some kind of southern sky spirit for me :-)

I found an older sktech from Hakos/Namibia with the 24-inch and 400x. The warped dust lane was visible without problems as a bend dark lane and a better defined boundary outside the galaxy.
