Comet NEOWISE

Just saw, NEOWISE and I hate to admit something so “close” gets me so excited, but I’m pretty stoked! The nucleus is super bright with a beautiful striated tail. It is the quintessential view of a comment I have always wanted to see. A great view in binoculars, even this deep into astronomical twilight. Going to have to get up earlier tomorrow to catch this one in darker skies.

Yes, solar system observing is like doing a meteorology in this forum :)
But I consider comets also as DSOs in the meaning of Dark Sky Objects.
Anyway, the C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is really beautiful! I observed this comet last morning using 48×125, 12×50 and 2×54 pairs of binoculars. This is my 219th comet. Finally we have a nice naked eye comet with a tail! Wow!

Well, I think the techniques for visually observing comets and diffuse deep-sky objects are very similar. :-)

This comet looks impressive with a parabolically shaped tail and a bright and round coma. I observed it this morning (01:50-02:05 UT) with my 12" Dobsonian, when it was only 2° above the horizon. Unfortunately it disappeared behind a large cloud later.

really great sketches ! Most i like the sketch with the NLCs "Komet über dem Silbersee" . Fantastic !

Yesterday i was in the Rhön (Hohe Geba). For me it was extrem impressive in my 8x42 Binocular. I see similar details that you show in your 8x30 Sketch. My sketch i will do later.

Hi,

Last Sunday I captured some photographs of the comet. Left you can see Neowise at dusk and right a stacked crop.

While the camera was taking those images me and my children were observing the comet through a 10x50 binocular given a 6.5° field of view. The sketch below is what I could see.

Observed with the naked eye the tail was larger than those 6.5° of the binoculars field of view. Location was a mountaintop near Frankfurt 900m asl. Date/Time was 12.07.2020 at 23 MESZ.

Hi here's my observation from Chiefland Florida 7/17/2020 :bright nucleus with a beautiful long tail 3965

My last result without moon from 07/20/2020 through a 8x30 (Nikon EII) binocular under good transparency. The gas tail was visible around 15° long through the binocular. With naked eye the dust tail was visible around 13° and the gas tail was at the limit of detection.
