I observed HE 1104-1805 recently I could see it direct vision @375X it appeared as a elongated star. I bumped up the power to 816X and in moments of steady seeing the Quasar would split into two stellar points. With a light travel time of 10.9 billion light years it was exciting to see the two components.

Back in 2008 with a 20" and 625x: "It took about an hour of looking, dark cloth over my head and telescope jiggling to improve the averted vision to a scale of 3." That was one of three lensed quasars that night from Cherry Springs State Park in PA. The other two were in Ursa Major and easier at 416x: QSO 0957+561 and IRAS F10214+4724, both ~11 BLy.

Hi All,

I observed successfully this object some years ago with my 25" Obsession, and saw it also as an elongated star.

And my drawing.

Hi Bertrand,
I read on your report that you used 312X on this lens. I also could not split it with 375X. It took high power for me to split it in the 48” scope.
